HR Indaba Africa 2018: Simplify.hr is an applicant tracking system for South African companies

post-title

The platform was developed by Careers24 and is used by both corporates and recruitment agencies.

With only days left before the inaugural HR Indaba, the anticipation from partners is palpable. In this article, we speak Henneri Crous, Head of Sales at Simplify.hr about why he is looking forward to the event.

What is Simplify.hr?

"It's our take on an applicant tracking system, which optimises the recruitment processes or agencies and corporates. For corporate clients, we handle the process from the requisition stage right through to the appointment of a candidate. It's a product that has been developed by the Careers24 tech team that essentially makes recruitment more efficient by automating a lot of the manual processes."

"When making requisitions, for example, a line manager would normally fill in a piece of paper to request that vacancy be advertised. But with Simplify.hr, that is automated so that vacancies are approved much faster and with less administrative takes. Our platform also makes capturing information - such as notes and communication with candidates - all on one system instead of being spread across different applications. This makes it easier to build an entire profile of a candidate on a single platform so that we are able to engage with them a lot more effectively."

How unique is the product?

"It's not entirely unique in terms of being an applicant tracking system but what makes it different from what currently exists in the market is that it's specifically designed for South African companies. A lot of internationally-developed applicant tracking systems do not take cognisance of our local challenges and requirements, which include things like reporting on employment equity, for example, or the fact that in South Africa we still have a significant amount of people who submit hard copy CVs instead of using the internet."

Why have you signed up to be a part of the HR Indaba?

"The HR Indaba is a critical event to attend purely because of the sheer number of HR professionals that are expected to attend the event. The kinds of people that will be there represent our core target market and there is also a thought leadership element to the event that we are looking forward to because topics like artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution are bound to be covered in depth. This will allow us to get some insights, not only into where the future is heading but also around how the market itself is responding to the changing HR landscape."

What do you believe is the biggest challenge facing the HR profession?

"I'll stick to the subject of recruitment by saying that South Africa's biggest challenge is that there are still a lot of sectors that deal with candidates that do not have access to the internet or even computers for that matter. That means there is still a significant portion of people simply do not have access to vacancies. Another challenge for organisations is how they comply with legislation like the Protection of Personal Information Act given that there is so much personal information that is collected in CVs, which companies do not necessarily use or dispose of in the correct manner."
