Malaika Mahlatsi has been suspended over a lovers' spat that played out on social media.
News24 has reported that Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina's speechwriter, Malaika Mahlatsi, has been suspended after she had a lovers' spat which played out on social media. Malaika reportedly engaged with her ex-lover's allegations that she had been writing the Mayor's PhD dissertation, among other things.
The former lover, whose name is Katlego Mamabolo, also circulated an audio recording in which Mailaka allegedly spoke about matters pertaining to the office of the Mayor.
Malaika has now been suspended with full pay, with the municipality saying she had transgressed the Municipal Systems Act, Code of Conduct as well as the City of Ekurhuleni's social media policy.
“A staff member of a municipality must at all times act in the best interest of the municipality and in such a way that the credibility and integrity of the municipality are not compromised,” said the City of Ekurhuleni in a statement on Tuesday.
The Sowetan reports that the speechwriter is now suing her ex-lover for publishing defamatory and untruthful statements about her on social media following their break-up.
