Khaya Ngema permanently appointed as chief people officer at Transnet

Khaya joined Transnet as the chief strategy officer in 2017 and became the acting chief people officer earlier this year.

Khaya Ngema has been appointed permanently as the chief people officer at Transnet. Khaya joined Transnet as the chief strategy officer in 2017 and, earlier this year, shortly after Portia Derby became the Transnet CEO, was given the role of acting chief people officer. Khaya has extensive leadership experience in the public sector, having held roles as the director of change management in the Office of the Director-General in Gauteng, director of strategy in the Office of The Premier in Gauteng, and the chief director of corporate services in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. 

Khaya, who describes himself as an ‘experienced corporate turnarounds executive, was also previously the deputy director-general for service delivery improvement at the Department of Public Service and Administration, the director-general in Mpumalanga, and the group executive for corporate strategy and planning at the South African Revenue Service. 

Khaya has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of the Witwatersrand as well as the Senior Executive Programme for Africa at the Havard Business School.
