According to LinkedIn's latest Emerging Jobs Report, they are the hot property.
LinkedIn recently released its third Emerging Jobs Report, which lists the fastest growing jobs in 17 countries across four continents. Unsurprisingly, Artificial Intelligence and robotics ranked highest, with ‘AI Specialist’ being the top emerging job in eight countries and was in the top ten in another five. Robotics engineer scored the highest in nine countries, while ‘Cybersecurity Specialist’ and jobs for people with data-related experience showed up on multiple lists across the globe. In every country but one, ‘Data Scientist’ made the list of fastest-growing jobs. What many might not have expected, however, is that ‘Blockchain Developer’ was dropped from the list this year, which LinkedIn says is not surprising given the fluctuating popularity of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
The analysis looked at the public profiles of all LinkedIn members who have held a full-time position within a particular country over the past five years and, after identifying the talent pool in each country, calculated the share of hiring and compound annual growth rate for each occupation between 2015 and 2019 to establish the roles with the largest rate of growth. The report finds that, in that time, the number AI specialist roles filled on the career networking service have grown 74 percent.
But where does one find an AI specialist? Apparently, the best approach is to look at the experience of individuals that are in those roles.
“In the United States, for example, the top three previous jobs held by AI specialists are software engineer, data scientist, and research assistant,” says the company on their Talent blog.
According to Computer Science Degree Hub, successful AI professionals are not only analytical and good at applying math, technology, logic, and engineering perspectives, they also have excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to convey how AI tools and services are effectively employed within industry settings.
Additionally, AI specialists need technical skills to design, maintain and repair technology and software programs. Finally, AI professionals must learn how to translate highly technical information in ways that others can understand in order to carry out their jobs. This requires good communication and the ability to work with colleagues on a team.
Technojobs says AI specialists should ideally have a strong background in programming or systems analysis, be fluent in several computer languages, and have a Master’s degree in computer science or cognitive science (a combination of psychology, computer science, anthropology, and philosophy).
