Workday Human Capital Management will help company digitalise employee practices.

Workday has been chosen to support Pick n Pay as it brings its employee experience into the digital age.

In 1967, Raymond Ackerman purchased the first four Pick n Pay stores in Cape Town, South Africa. Since then the Group’s vision has grown and expanded to encompass stores in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, eSwatini, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Nigeria. It now employs more than 88,000 people across its sites.

“Digital technology has transformed our lives, including the way we access our services and leisure,” said Chris Shortt, Pick n Pay.

“Workday will bring the benefits of digital transformation to the way we work. Colleagues across our organisation will be able to access, update and apply the data they need to do their jobs – anytime, anywhere, and from any device – using a simple, intuitive interface. This will give them an experience at work equivalent to what they experience in digital technology in their own lives.”

“It will also enable us to offer exciting and personalised digital learning and training resources to help all colleagues in their career development. Digital transformation is key to our strategy, and Workday will enable us to bring the way we operate into the digital age. The new, cloud-based system will also enable us to transform human capital management, including the way we identify and develop talent and match skill sets to roles.”

With one cloud-based system for human capital management, Pick n Pay will be able to provide managers with insights into their teams, which are often spread across multiple countries, enabling them to better measure performance, recognise and develop top talent, and align skill sets with roles.

Employees will also be empowered with greater mobile capabilities using a simple, intuitive interface, that gives them the ability to access information and take action from anywhere and at any time.

“This is the start of an incredible journey for Pick n Pay and we’re excited to be part of it,” said Zuko Mdwaba, regional country director, Workday.”

“Forward-thinking companies understand digital transformation is more important than ever. By transforming its employee experience, Pick n Pay will move everyone forward together, and give its employees and the business the best opportunity to grow.”
