He has been an adjunct associate professor (industrial psychology) at the University of the Free State, and served as SABPP human resources audit committee chairman and board member for the South African Board of People Practices (SABPP). 

Before joining VKB Group, he spent nearly a decade at Raubex Group Ltd in various HR roles, including civil construction divisional head, human resources and training, talent and development head. His career was built at SA Truck Bodies, starting with an internship in industrial psychology.

Francois holds a masters degree in industrial psychology from North-West University, which followed an honours degree in human resources management from the North-West University.
