Anusuya Govender has been appointed as chief people officer (CPO) for Old Mutual.

The appointment, which was effective 1 November 2023, will see Anusuya help shape and execute the Old Mutual people strategy, to enable the group's integrated financial services strategy.

Anusuya first joined Old Mutual as the group remuneration and benefits executive in April 2020. Since then, she is said to have demonstrated her passion for people through various initiatives that she has spearheaded for Old Mutual’s employees. Her team was instrumental in advancing Old Mutual’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through fair and responsible pay, their progressive parental leave policy and the employee share scheme in the Bula Tsela transaction.

“I am truly excited to be taking on a broader role as the chief people officer for Old Mutual.
In a highly changing and evolving world, it’s imperative for human capital leaders to not only be people champions but also manage a stakeholder environment that demands strong commercial acumen, data and digital literacy, and execution excellence. I look forward to making a meaningful impact on people’s lives through social empowerment while also supporting a culture of purpose and high performance,” said Anusuya.

Anusuya has over 20 years’ experience in human capital and has worked across leading blue chip organisations in financial services and telecommunications. Before joining Old Mutual, she spent time at SABMiller (now AB InBev) where she was the Africa reward director, followed by two years as an independent consultant advising on human capital and reward strategy.

Anusuya holds an honours degree (commerce) in industrial and organisational psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and has also completed an international executive development programme at the London Business School.
