The retrenchments form part of a plan to implement a new operating model.

MyBroadbrand has reported that Dimension Data has confirmed plans to retrench 480 employees, saying that the company had begun the Section 189 consultation process.

These retrenchments form part of the process of implementing a new operating model, plans for which were announced in March, wherein the company will consolidate the four brands of Dimension Data, Internet Solutions, Britehouse, and ContinuitySA into a single operating entity under the Dimension Data name.

While cost-reduction was not the primary objective of the new model, the company did say that the impact of the Covid-19 national lockdown has made the changes necessary.

“The main reason for his change is to provide a single portfolio of services to clients and improve client experience, as well as to streamline operations and future-fit the Dimension Data business,” Dimension Data said, according to the report.

“As a result, our workforce requirements have changed. We intend to remove role duplication, and consolidate platforms, tools and processes into single instances, and flatten our structure.”
