Bertina Engelbrecht has been appointed as the new CEO of Clicks, in the wake of the resignation of current CEO Vikesh Ramsunder, with effect from 31 December.

Bertina currently serves as the group corporate affairs director, and has previously worked on the role of group HR director – an unusual trajectory to the position of CEO. She was nominated for the 2019 CHRO Awards.

Bertina joined the Clicks group in 2006, and was appointed as an executive director in 2008. She has held previous positions at Shell SA Energy, Sea Harvest and Transnet. She is an admitted attorney and holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Cape Town.

About Bertina’s appointment, Clicks Group chairperson, David Nurek says:

“We are pleased to appoint Bertina as the first black female to lead a listed retail group in South Africa. She has been part of the executive leadership team for the past 15 years and been integrally involved in the development of the group’s strategy and growth of the business over this time.”

Vikesh will be moving on to a listed company in Australia, but will continue as a strategic advisor until August next year.
