Tony Smith has been appointed group people and culture officer at Grindrod.
He is set to lead the group’s people and culture function, with responsibility for aligning human capital strategy with business priorities.
Tony joins from Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, where he served as people and culture director, following his role as group head for strategic HR business partnering. Earlier in his career with the business, he also held the position of senior HR business partner,
He has also held a regional HR leadership role at Unilever, where he served as HR director for supply chain Southern Africa.
Prior to this, he spent several years within ABI, the soft drinks division of South African Breweries, where he held roles as HR consultant, regional HR business partner, as well as talent management consultant.
His earlier experience includes serving as HR manager at Lonmin, and as a Human capital consultant at the Industrial Development Corporation.
Tony began his career at De Beers Group as an HR practitioner.
Academically, he holds a bachelor of social science in industrial and organisational psychology from UKZN.
