Shirley Zinn appointed to Spurs board

Shirley is also a member of the CHRO SA advisory board

Spur Corporation has recently annnounced the appointment of Professor Shirley Zinn as an independent non-executive director with effect from 17 June 2019. Shirley, who was the first member of the CHRO SA advisory board, is an acclaimed human resources practitioner who has held senior positions in the corporate and public sectors. She was formerly head of human resources at Woolworths Holdings, Standard Bank South Africa, Nedbank Group and the South African Revenue Service. Currently Shirley serves on the boards of Sanlam, MTN-SA (chair of the remuneration committee), Shoprite Holdings (lead independent director and chair of the remuneration committee), Afrocentric and AdvTech (lead independent and chair of the remuneration committee).

Shirley has a wealth of knowledge about the profession and is the CEO of her own company, Shirley Zinn Consulting, which provides consulting and advisory services relating to transformation, leadership, and education.

“Old tricks are quickly becoming obsolete. The CHRO role has been shifting for years," says Shirley, who believes that there is a strong need fo organisation to adapt to a fast-paced age of disruption and operate in an increasingly complex business landscape. 

In addition to numerous other academic qualifications, Shirley Zinn holds two Masters Degrees and a PhD from Harvard University, and has written a book, Swimming Upstream: A story of grit and determination to succeed, which has received plaudits as one of the most impressive biographies in recent years.

Shirley is also a professor at the University of Pretoria's Department of Human Resource Management and is a past president of the Institute for People Management South Africa.
