Joseph Rock has been nominated for the 2026 CHRO Awards for his role as chief people and performance officer at Exxaro Resources.
He joins a cohort of HR leaders competing across nine award categories, including the headline CHRO of the Year title.
Before joining Exxaro, Joseph served as group head for people experience and chief operating officer for HR at Absa Group. He also served as a non-executive director and chairman of the remuneration committee at Shoprite Holdings for a decade.
His career includes leadership roles as general manager for Exxaro Services at Exxaro Resources, group executive for large business centre at Sars, associate director for transfer pricing and international tax at PwC, European tax accountant at Prudential Insurance Company of America and senior manager at PwC.
Dubbed the “Oscars of HR”, the CHRO Awards continues to celebrate leaders who raise the bar for people leadership in South Africa across listed companies, large corporates and government institutions.
The 2026 nominees will be celebrated at a gala event on 24 November, where winners across multiple categories, including the CHRO of the Year title, will be announced.
