It’s almost time for the 2022 CHRO Awards

With just under two weeks to go before the 2022 CHRO Awards, here is a look back at what went down at last year’s event.

Dubbed the Oscars of HR, the glitzy event will again be held at the Polo Room in Inanda, Johannesburg on 18 October.

The annual CHRO Awards are organised by CHRO South Africa, the community that connects HR executives through executive events, the bi-annual CHRO Magazine, and social media channels. By helping top HR leaders share knowledge, exchange interests and open up business opportunities, CHRO South Africa proudly contributes to the growth of the country.

Last year, Dieter Veldsman was named South Africa’s CHRO of the Year. He also took home the HR & Technology Award and the Strategy & Leadership Award.

Dieter said when accepting the CHRO of the Year Award: “A big thank you from my side to the CHRO fraternity and the community.”

Candice Watson, managing director at Mwangaza Advisory, scooped two awards at the exclusive event. She was named the Young CHRO of the Year, and she also took home the Learning & Development Award. “I simply have no words. I am absolutely humbled. This award represents so many things, but the one thing it represents is that where you start in life, is not where you will end. Standing on the stage is a full cycle moment for me,” she said.

Jasmin Pillay received the Employee Value Proposition Award, for her time as the HR director for Microsoft South Africa.

Another winner was Celiwe Ross, director: Group Strategy and Group Human Capital Old Mutual, who took home the Talent Management Award, while Donald Khumalo walked away with the Transformation & Empowerment Award for his work as HR director at the JSE. Celiwe said upon receiving her award: "It's such an honour and I would like to acknowledge my team. The core practices that make up the work that we do can often be underestimated in terms of what they have as an impact, but when you have a team that you can trust to deliver in something so mundane in an impactful way, I can only credit them. I am proud to lead them and the work that they do in this space."

Donald said: "I dedicate this award to my former colleagues at the JSE who have made this possible."
