With the 2024 CHRO Awards are around the corner, Mercer has come on board as the official sponsor for the 2024 Young CHRO of the Year Award.

CHRO South Africa caught up with Tesantha Naidoo, principal consultant at Mercer South Africa to find out about Mercer’s decision to sponsor the 2024 Young CHRO of the Year Award, and why the company believes it’s so important to support these awards.

Q. What inspires Mercer to sponsor the Young CHRO of the Year Award?

A. At Mercer, we truly believe we have top talent and key skills on the African continent, which the rest of the world recognises, and is one of the key reasons that sub-Saharan Africa has the highest percentage of employees that are intent on leaving.

We have a collective responsibility to continuously invest in the growth and development of our young talent so that we are able to create a strong pipeline for decades to come. This award serves as an accolade for a young CHRO who is leading the pack and making a significant contribution to the employees in their organisations.

Q. How does Mercer’s commitment to innovation in HR and talent management align with the Young CHRO of the Year 2024 award?

A. We live in an employee-centric market, where employees expect an experience that aligns with their needs. Their needs have fundamentally shifted over the past decade and there is now an expectation for an experience, which includes looking at the end-to-end employee journey.

Mercer works closely with HR and business leaders to understand rapidly changing priorities, while creating an environment in which employees are able to thrive through growth, wellbeing, engagement and remuneration to ensure that they are able to connect with the organisation.

All of Mercer’s people practices are informed by data, and we understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, while at the same time integrating innovation into HR and talent management.

Q. What aspects of HR strategy, leadership or talent development reflect Mercer’s values and objectives?

A. All of the above aspects align to Mercer’s values and objectives. Mercer, as a global HR consulting organisation, has a core focus of creating environments in which employees can be their best and make a positive impact. We create solutions and explore innovative ideas that make a difference for the clients and communities we serve. We partner with leaders to help them develop so that they are able to inspire others and unlock the potential of those around them and lead with humility.

We understand the impact of culture, and the employee’s need to be part of a purpose-driven team that harnesses diverse experiences, backgrounds and perspectives.
