Recruitment activity takes a dip, while hiring activity increases


CareerJunction warns that certain job roles will fall away as new technologies evolve.

The latest CareerJunction Employment Insight report reveals that there has been a slight decline in recruitment activity over the past month. However, year-on-year online hiring activity remains 23 percent higher in July 2022 than it was in July 2021.

According to the recruitment company, finance, business and management, as well as information recruitment activity have taken a dip, while technology sectors have seen the biggest increase in hiring activity in the last three months.

  • Finance professionals
  • Sales professionals
  • IT professionals
  • Business and management professionals
  • Manufacturing professionals

“In the world of work, new professions are created every day, while others become less relevant or obsolete. As the world evolves, so do job trends and job descriptions,” the report reads.

According to the report, technological advances in the field of robotics are affecting nearly every single job sector. “In the past, many considered post office or switchboard operator jobs as suitable employment options. Today, from car manufacturing and safety inspection jobs, to travel agency telemarketing or pharmacy jobs, there is a robot potentially taking over your industry.”

CareerJunction notes that while some roles will gradually fall away in the future, new careers are emerging rapidly to satisfy the demand technology has created. “It is safe to say that many of the jobs of the future will be tech, human or environment focused.”

In its recent research on “future jobs”, CareerJunction identified the following as jobs of the future, indicating favourable employment prospects and sustainable employability:

  • E-commerce manager
  • Data engineering, customer success
  • Digital marketing,
  • Wellness consultants
  • Renewable energy specialists
