Kutlwano wants to pave the way for inclusion and diversity.

Chief of People at Rectron South Africa Kutlwano Rawana is now the Group HR & Transformation executive at Mustek Group.

Rectron South Africa is a subsidiary of Mustek Group.

Kutlwano, who was appointed as chief of people in June 2021 says what excites her most about the transition is the inclusion of the people function and focus at group level.

“While I’m certain that people have always been at the heart of the Mustek Group business, the inclusion of this function at group level further affirms and accelerates the group’s commitment and focus in being one of the leading competitive players for attracting, retaining, developing and shaping the best talent in the market.”

Expressing her gratitude on the appointment, Kutlwano says her career journey has been more about paving the way for those that come after her, “To me, my journey has never been about me but about paving the way for the women that come after me and those around me. I’m humbled by the recognition and the role I broadly play in society of changing the narrative for the young township or rural African girl with dreams, and this is not a responsibility I take lightly. So I hope that my journey inspires others to break barriers too and continuously positively change the world.”

Kutlwano holds a master’s in business leadership from the Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Johannesburg. With a career spanning over a decade, Kutlwano has held several leadership roles in prominent organisations.

She aims to bring a wealth of experience to this role, “My experience encompasses years of shaping HR departments for improved efficiency, business success and value add. I’ve been fortunate enough to lead change and improve the people function across the businesses I’ve served, which I think are key attributes required for this role.”

In a memo, Mustek group CEO Hein Engelbrecht explained that the move was in light of gearing support in successfully executing the group strategy.

“As such the group exco functions have been extended to include audit and risk, HR and IT. These functions will oversee the strategic objectives and direction of the respective functional areas across Mustek and its subsidiaries, effective immediately. This will also aid consistent practice in all areas as we shape our business for further success and sustainability.”

Kutlwano adds that the group’s long term goals are centred around product diversification (offering) to meet changing environmental demands and sustainable growth over the years. “A futuristic talent management approach is required to drive this and thus the people function will enable achievement of these objectives.”
