Annual report reveals average SABC employee earns R791,000

According to IOL, the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) annual report reveals that the public broadcaster spent more than R2.35 billion paying the salaries of 2,979 employees at an average salary of R791 000 per person during the 2019/20 financial year. This represents a 3.8 percent increase from the previous financial year when the R2.4 billion paying the salaries of 3,167 employees at an average salary of R762 000 per person.

The report also revealed that eight top managers for the 2019/20 financial year received an average salary package of R3.91 million per year, while senior managers received R2.15 million. Meanwhile, middle managers received an average of R1.23 million per year, and junior managers received a package of R998,000.

In contrast, in the previous year, 11 top managers were paid R38 million at an average salary of R3.46 million while 34 senior managers were paid a collective R67.6 million between them, at an average cost of R1.9 million each. Middle management were paid an average of R1.1 million while junior managers received an average of R944,000 per person.
