Duke Mgaga has been appointed as the chief people officer at the Parliament of South Africa.
Parliament’s recently appointed CPO, Duke Mgaga, is committed to fostering a people-first culture that supports the critical work of shaping the nation’s policies and governance.
With more than 20 years of experience in strategic human resource management, Duke specialises in driving organisational transformation processes, developing people capabilities, and promoting an inclusive and values-driven workplace.
“In my role, I lead HR strategy and operations for one of South Africa’s most prestigious institutions, ensuring alignment between the Parliament’s people practices and its constitutional mandate. My work focuses on talent management, compensation and benefits, workforce planning, employee engagement, culture change management, organisational design, employee relations, management of employee wellness programmes, and initiatives that reflect South Africa’s rich and diverse society,” he says.
Duke has more than 20 years of human resources management experience, and has worked at companies such as Shell, Alstom and Momentum (MHG).
In addition to his HR function, he also took charge of the corporate affairs portfolio at Alstom, specifically managing risk exposure. Duke has worked in various industries including oil and gas, manufacturing, engineering, as well as property management.
He has an executive doctorate (change management in the real estate industry within the digital economy) and executive MBA from Business School Netherlands, a certificate of directorship from the Institute of Directors South Africa, and a degree in human resources management from Durban University of Technology under his belt.
