Portia Mogale appointed as human capital executive for Sanlam Corporate

Portia will start at Sanlam Corporate on 1 June.

Seasoned HR executive Portia Mogale has been appointed as the managing executive for human capital for Sanlam Corporate, and will begin her role as of 1 June 2023. She has been acting executive head: human capital at Santam since December 2022.

Portia joins Sanlam after 20 years of working with various teams and leaders to develop the skills needed to navigate massive change.

According to the JSE-listed company, Portia is an experienced business transformation, change management, programme management and HR leader, who has worked across myriad industries in Africa and Asia, from mining and banking to insurance and technology.

Prior to joining Sanlam, Portia was the group manager for change management at Mutual & Federal and also held the position of managing consultant for organisational strategy and change at IBM.

She became head of change management at Santam in 2012 – a role that evolved into taking on dual accountability for both business change management and organisational effectiveness in 2020.

Portia says she looks forward to working closely with Sanlam teams and leaders to ensure they continue to make our people’s wellbeing a primary focus. “Our people are our greatest asset, and our goal is to foster an enabling environment they are proud to be part of. I look forward to continuing to build on our culture of purpose and care, centred around the business’s ‘winning as one’ philosophy.”

CEO Kanyisa Mkhize says the appointments align with the Sanlam Group’s focus on innovation and growth to fuel its purpose of empowering generations to be financially confident, secure, and prosperous.

Portia’s appointment is part of the latest edition of top execs to its leadership team, which is said to be in alignment with Sanlam Group’s focus on innovation and growth. “We are in the midst of an exciting phase for Sanlam Corporate, delivering innovative solutions within our umbrella, group risk, investment, healthcare and consulting businesses to solve for the increasingly evolving needs of our clients.”

Other appointments include San-Marié Crause as managing executive for group risk, Lorraine Mekwa as managing executive for client experience and Wouter Dercksen as managing executive for servicing and distribution.

“We remain focused on client experience, along with digital- and AI-led innovation, strategic growth and sustainable investment practices dedicated to driving real impact. This year, we’re looking to accelerate the growth of our umbrella fund and health solutions, support our world-class asset management offering, and bolster our intermediary partnerships and advice capabilities. I believe Portia, Lorraine, Wouter and San-Marié are the perfect people to walk this journey with us,” concluded Mkhize.
