Chwayita Mareka joins Massmart as senior vice president and chief people officer

She joins the executive committee at the African retail and wholesale group.

Chwayita Mareka has been appointed senior vice president and chief people officer at Massmart.

She joins Massmart from Rhodes Food Group where she had been the group Human Resources director since July 2019. Prior to this, she spent eight years at Engen, which she joined in 2011 as a talent development manager.

She held various roles there, including organisational development Manager and HR business partner before taking on the top HR job in 2017.

Before Engen, she worked at the Coega Development Corporation and at Transnet.

Chwayita has a National Diploma in Public Management and Administration, Management Development Programme (MDP), Master of Business Administration from the University of South Africa and a Master of Science in Organisational Psychology from the University of London.
