Speaking at CHRO SA’s year-end event, James said HR professionals needed to remember to take a humane approach to their work.

"That means being honest with people. If times are tough, don't sugarcoat issues. Even if you as a leader are under pressure, you have to raise your voice and ask for assistance. One shouldn't pretend to be tough and unbreakable simply because they are an executive. Because we have to be authentic as leaders,” he said

"We are becoming more strategic because that is what the role increasingly requires in order to have a seat at the boardroom table but, as we become stronger business people, we become very hard and cold when it comes to the human element. For our executive team, we try to conscientize them and remind that we are dealing with individuals who still deserve to be treated with respect and dignity."

In what will be the largest expo that is specifically for HR professionals, the indaba will give HR professionals an opportunity to learn everything they need to know about the latest HR technology, HR strategy, company culture, labour laws, recruitment, employee engagement, and HR leadership. It will also bring together thousands of colleagues, suppliers, platforms, universities, specialists, recruitment agencies, CHROs, and thought leaders.
