The experienced communication professional is looking forward to supporting the provincial government through people practices and best practice in public sector training.
Dr Phumzile Mmope has stepped into a new role as chief director of people training and empowerment at the people management branch within the department of the premier in the Western Cape government.
“I look forward to channeling my passion for empowering people and together with my team, contribute to building a trusted and people-centred government that innovatively, collaboratively, and efficiently mobilises resources for service delivery,” she shared.
“I am especially excited about contributing to the vision of elevating the provincial training institute into a world-leading hub for public sector learning, development and innovation.”
Prior to joining the Western Cape government, Phumzile worked as an editor for corporate publications in corporate media at UNISA, and as an executive director for institutional advancement at North West University.
Additionally, she has held a key role as a senior director at Stellenbosch University, and is also the founder and owner of Dr Phumzile Mmope Communications.
Excited to embark in her new position, she shared, ”I look forward to this exciting journey, collaborating with all stakeholders committed to a future characterised by empowerment, innovation, and excellence in public service.”
Phumzile holds a PhD in communication studies from North West University, and a master’s degree in communication studies from the same institution, an honours degree in communication science from UNISA, and a BTech in journalism from the Tshwane University of Technology.
