post-title

Lumkani is an NPO that uses innovative technology to reduce the incidence of shack fires.

Social enterprise Lumkani has signed as a partner for the HR Indaba, which will be taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre on 16 and 17 October 2019. The company addresses the challenge of shack fires - which trap people in cycles of poverty - using innovative technology that allows for financial inclusion in the form of insurance. To accomplish its mission mitigating the loss of life and property caused by slum fires in South Africa and across the globe, Lumkani has developed and distributed its networked early warning fire detection system to over 40 000 homes in informal settlements across South Arica.  This award-winning system has been successfully reducing the spread of fires for over four years, and has limited fires from spreading beyond the first home in 71% of cases.

Along the way, Lumkani has partnered with local NGOs; international aid organisations; and corporations to reach high fire risk households.  It has also taken the next step in further providing security against fire and building a sustainable business model, by partnering with Hollard Insurance.  Together they provide household insurance against fire to informal homes.  These factors together are a formidable force for lasting & sustainable change

As a partner, Lumkani will have an exhibition stand at the HR Indaba, which will be the largest of its kind in South Africa. It will give HR professionals an opportunity to learn everything they need to know about the latest HR technology, HR strategy, company culture, labour laws, recruitment, employee engagement and HR leadership. It will also bring together thousands of colleagues, suppliers, platforms, universities, specialists, recruitment agencies, CHROs and thought leaders.
