Oracle congratulates CHRO Awards winners

Paul Norman and Sharon Taylor were the night's biggest winners with three and two awards respectively.

Oracle has expressed their pride after having been involved in the first-ever CHRO Awards, congratulating the night's overall winner MTN Group CHRO Paul Norman who won the CHRO Award of the Year, along with the Learning & Development Award and the Talent Management Award. MTN has relied on Oracle technologies since 2003, most recently implementing a solution that consolidated the group's employee information into a single system by deploying Oracle Human Resources Information System (HRIS), gaining visibility into employees across 22 operations and their roles within the organisation. The solution reduced in-country HR workload by automating paper-based and manual processes—such as leave requests, training-program enrollment, and personal and work-information updates - resulting in the number of staff needed to process timesheets, leave, and salary payments in each operation dropping by one-third, cutting HR staff costs by 30 percent while managing a continuously growing number of employees.

Another big winner at the prestigious Awards ceremony was Standard Bank whose Head of Human Capital Sharon Taylor scooped the Strategy & Leadership Award, which was presented by George Ferreira, Oracle Senior Sales Director, Applications South Africa and SADC region. She also won the Transformation & Empowerment Award.

“With a footprint all over Africa, this is a true testament to our purpose: Africa is our home and we drive the growth,” said Sharon, adding the award was an endorsement of the good work done by the bank’s leadership, which had been recognised one of the global “HeForShe” champions – the first on the African continent.

Other winners on the night included Trishana Maharaj, who is the HR and Health and Safety Director for Africa at G4S and was crowned Young CHRO of the Year, Sun International Group Executive for HR Verna Robson who won the Employee Value Proposition Award, and Vodacom Group CHRO Matimba Mbungela who took home the prize in the HR & Technology category.

Says George: “Thank you to all our guests, and congratulations to all the nominees and winners. We were honoured to have been a part of this prestigious award ceremony and we are looking forward to engaging further in the near future. Wishing you all a festive and peaceful festive season

The winners of the CHRO Awards were announced on Wednesday 27 November 2019 at the end of a gala event for HR executives, held at Summer Place in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.
