Smita Ramouthar joins AstraZeneca

She has been appointed as the HR director for SA and SSA

Global biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has appointed Smita Ramouthar as the HR director for South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Smita joined the company as the HR lead in January 2019 when she was responsible for the overall performance of the HR function. Prior to that, she was the HR lead at Boehringer Ingelheim, a global pharmaceuticals company with 50 000 employees around the world. Smita has also held senior HR management roles at Kapsch Group, Barloworld Logistics and Massmart. 

Smita describes herself as a strategic HR professional whose role is to partner with business, influence and lead human capital planning, change management, organisational consulting & design, diversity and inclusion and engagement initiatives while utilising business process principles.

She has a bachelors degree majoring in Geosciences from the University of the Witwatersrand, a bachelors degree in Psychology and Social Sciences from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and a postgraduate honours degree in Psychometrics and  Organisational Psychology from the University of South Africa.
