Njabulo Mashigo has been appointed to the role of human resources director and executive director of Vodacom South Africa with effect from 1 February 2021. Njabulo has 18 years of experience in the human resources management value chain, nine years of which have been in senior leadership roles.

The Vodacom group has simplified its structure following the recent expansion of its African portfolio, and accelerated growth ambitions on the continent, including financial and digital services. Vodacom South Africa is now a standalone company with a new managing director and board.

Njabulo joins the telecoms giant from Heineken, Amsterdam where she had been on assignment as a talent management lead and opco spanbreaker in the Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe (AMEE) region since September 2018. Previously, Njabulo held the role of Heineken’s human resources director for southern Africa.

While still settling into being back in South Africa from the Netherlands, Njabulo says she’s looking forward to contributing to the successful execution of the Vodacom SA strategy, “The industry is evolving. Part of my role is understanding what the shifts mean for us as an organisation and the associated culture change needed to be able to support that.”

South Africa is Vodacom’s largest market, employing more than 5,000 people.

A few days into her role, Njabulo has found it to be a great experience and adds that she is looking forward to being a partner to the CHRO at group level and driving Vodacom SA’s vision as it focuses on new growth areas to diversify its revenue streams.

Her previous roles include director of human resources at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and chief director: human resources, and head of talent management at the National Treasury of South Africa.

She holds a BA Industrial Psychology graduate from Rhodes University, as well as an MBA through GIBS and participated in Heineken’s Global Talent Development Programme through INSEAD Business School.
