Dr Angie Ontong joins list of nominees for the 2026 CHRO Awards

Dr Angie Ontong has been nominated for the 2026 CHRO Awards for her role as director of HR development, human resource planning, strategy and information management at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic).

She joins a cohort of HR leaders competing across nine award categories, including the headline CHRO of the Year title.

Dr Angie has served as director of HR development, human resource planning, strategy and information management at the dtic since 2014. Before joining the department, she was director of capacity building for public financial management and an HRD specialist at National Treasury.

Earlier in her career, Angie was an associate director at Leadership Management International in the UK and held learning and development roles at Old Mutual and First National Bank.

She began her career as a bank official at Standard Bank South Africa before moving into training and development, including roles as a training specialist and Bankmaster implementation and training consultant at Stanbic Africa.

She also worked as a pan African procedures manager at Barclays Africa and a lecturer at Damelin Academy of Banking Financial Services College.

Dubbed the “Oscars of HR”, the CHRO Awards continues to celebrate leaders who raise the bar for people leadership in South Africa across listed companies, large corporates and government institutions.
