Standout 2024 CHRO appointments that dominated the headlines

CHRO South Africa spotlights the headline-grabbing moves that shook up the HR world this year!

2024 proved to be a significant year for CHROs in South Africa, with trailblazing appointments redefining the HR landscape. With HR sitting squarely at the heart of business strategy, it’s no surprise that top talent was in high demand – and these moves had the HR community buzzing.

After seven years of heading up HR for Transunion’s Africa regions, Ndivhu Nepfumbada left the organisation to join Maziv as group HR chief, a move that was earmarked as a bold step in transformation. Remgro’s Maziv is a fibre operator and Ndivhu says she will aim to align HR with Maziv’s mandate to drive greater connectivity throughout South Africa.

In September Michele Seroke took the helm as Mediclinic Southern Africa’s CHRO, ready to drive innovation in healthcare. Michele had previously been with Motus Corporation as chief people officer from 2017. Her aim at the medical facility group is to foster a culture where every employee feels empowered to drive Mediclinic’s vision and deliver exceptional service.

Meanwhile earlier this year, Dr Zain Reddiar took up the role of global CHRO at iSON Xperiences and is working hard at fostering a positive and inclusive culture at the organisation.

Zain, who was appointed in January 2024, assumed overall accountability for the iSON people agenda, determining and driving strategy, culture, organisational architecture, talent management and employee engagement strategies, among other responsibilities across the 20+ geographies.

Most recently, Nomzabalazo Makubalo joined RMB as chief people officer, bringing a fresh perspective to talent strategy. Nomza, who had been acting in the position since October 2023, has been tasked with driving employee engagement and innovation.

In July, Rishi Ramgulam was announced as the chief executive: people support at PEP. Rishi shared his vision for PEP’s future, building on a solid foundation to propel the business forward.

Embracing the strengths of neurodiversity in the workplace
